Lupita Nyong’o made a striking return at the Met Gala on May 5, 2025. She wore a beautiful pastel green power suit after a four-year break. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress showcased the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with her bold outfit.
Nyong’o’s outfit featured a shimmering two-piece suit with a double-breasted jacket and matching pants. Adding a dramatic flair was a floor-length sheer cape that flowed from the jacket. Her look was completed with a button-down shirt, bow tie, and a crystal brooch that maintained the green tone. She accessorized with a floral lapel pin, a small top hat, and several pieces of sparkling diamond jewelry.
One of the most eye-catching details of her ensemble was her glam—especially her eyebrows, which were bedazzled with black rhinestones. Her makeup included a smoky black eyeshadow, subtle lip color, and a deep blush, creating a balance of classic elegance and avant-garde edge. 
The theme of the event is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It comes from Monica L. Miller’s book, Slaves to Fashion. It celebrates the art of Black dandyism. Nyong’o’s fitted appearance celebrated this tale while displaying her one-of-a-kind fashion.
This marked Nyong’o’s first Met Gala appearance since 2021, when she wore a denim Atelier Versace gown. She has a colorful history with the Met Gala. In 2019, she wore a bold Versace dress for the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme. The dress featured rainbow tulle. Artist Lauren Kelley inspired her sculptural Afro hairstyle.
Throughout her Met Gala appearances, Nyong’o has consistently blended fashion with cultural expression, often working with makeup artist Nick Barose and hairstylist Vernon Francois to create visually stunning and thematically rich looks.
