On Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning for central Clark County. Severe thunderstorms are causing heavy rain. The warning came out shortly after 2:30 p.m. and is set to end before 6 p.m. More warnings are likely for nearby areas.
The NWS stressed the urgency. Flash flooding is already happening or expected soon. The warning covers areas like Henderson, Boulder City, Hoover Dam, Temple Bar Campground, Willow Beach, and Temple Bar. These spots are high-risk zones where flooding can rise quickly due to storms.
Another flash flood warning is in effect for Overton, Moapa Valley, Logandale, and the Valley of Fire. This warning lasts until 8:30 p.m. It alerts residents not only to flash flooding but also to wind gusts over 40 mph.
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada reported road closures from flooding. Southbound U.S. 95 at State Route 163 near Laughlin is closed as of 6 p.m. Commuters should avoid the area until the storm ends and the water recedes.
The public is sharing storm photos on social media, especially on Facebook. These show dark clouds, heavy rain, and flooded streets as the storm hits the Las Vegas Valley.
The National Weather Service sent out a crucial safety message: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Officials highlighted that many flood-related deaths occur when people drive through flooded roads. Even shallow water can be dangerous.
Residents should check local forecasts and alerts from official sources. Stay indoors during severe weather. Emergency services are ready to respond quickly to any situations that arise.
