Rockstar Games may be preparing to remaster Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA 4) for modern platforms including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. According to well-known insiders, this release could happen in late 2025, ahead of the highly anticipated GTA 6, now delayed until May 2026.
Insider “Tez2” claims that development of the GTA 4 remaster has been underway for at least a year. This information aligns with earlier reports that Rockstar plans to release a new remaster annually, a trend seen since 2021. Following the potential 2025 release of GTA 4, a remaster of Max Payne 3 could follow in 2026.
Another known GTA insider, Ben, suggests that the remaster could serve multiple purposes. Not only would it help fill the gap left by the GTA 6 delay, but it could also introduce younger players to Liberty City—the setting where Lucia Caminos, one of GTA 6’s new main characters, was reportedly born and raised. learn more news.
“If Rockstar continues with the annual remaster strategy mandated by Take-Two, a GTA 4 remaster makes perfect sense,” Ben tweeted. “It would bring in players who missed the original while keeping the momentum going until GTA 6 arrives.”
GTA 6’s second trailer recently shed light on its main characters, Jason and Lucia, and the state of Leonida, which appears to be a fictional version of Florida. The game’s narrative follows the duo as they navigate a dangerous criminal underworld and rely on each other to survive.
The GTA 4 remaster, if confirmed, would bring improved graphics and performance to the gritty Liberty City setting first introduced in 2008. It could also explain why certain popular mods—such as the Liberty City Police Pack—were recently taken down.
While Rockstar has not officially confirmed the remaster, fans are keeping a close watch on game rating boards like Korea’s, where leaks often appear early.
Until Rockstar makes an announcement, speculation continues—but the timing makes sense. A refreshed GTA 4 could ease fan frustration over GTA 6’s delay and offer a valuable bridge between generations of GTA storytelling.
Stay tuned for updates as Rockstar’s 2025 release slate shapes up.
