The singer’s father died in Los Angeles.
Rihanna’s dad, Ronald Fenty, has died, PEOPLE can confirm. He was 70.
Fenty died in Los Angeles following “a brief illness,” according to the Starcom Network, which first reported the news. His official time and cause of death have yet to be released.
Fenty’s family members were with the rapper when he died, sources told the Rihanna-founded outlet, which is based in her native Barbados.
The images published by TMZ show Rihanna’s little brother, Rajad Fenty, arriving at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre on May 28. The singer was also in the car, the outlet reported.
Rihanna’s reps did not return PEOPLE’s requests for comment on Saturday, May 31.

Rihanna, who is currently pregnant as she prepares for her third child, was born to Fenty and her mother, Monica Braithwaite, in February 1988. (The star is already mom of sons Rza, 2, and Riot, 1, with A$AP Rocky.)
In addition to Rihanna and Rajad, Fenty and Braithwaite are survived by their son, Rorrey. Rihanna also has three half-siblings from her dad’s other relationships: sisters Samantha and Kandy, and brother Jamie.
Rihanna’s dad has been in and out of her life over the years.
After the star was beaten up by her then-boyfriend Chris Brown in 2009, Fenty allegedly leaked details to the press about the attack without his daughter’s permission. Years later, Rihanna reflected on the situation in an interview for Vogue and described it as “really strange”.
“You are your father’s son, you know him, you’re part of him, for god’s sake!” she said, per Billboard. “And then he does something so strange that I can’t even start to figure it out.”

A year later, Rihanna confessed to Oprah that she had “repaired” her relationship with Fenty, but they were at odds since 2019, when Rihanna sued her father for what she alleged was taking advantage of her name for profit.
Among other grievances, she alleged that her father had started a talent development company in 2017, Fenty Entertainment, that she said posed as her management company and solicited business from new clients. But three weeks before the 2021 trial was scheduled, Rihanna moved to dismiss the suit.
