Former congressman Anthony Weiner will appear as the first guest on the new season of “The Adam Friedland Show,” launching Thursday at 4 p.m. on YouTube. Weiner’s appearance marks a public step back into the spotlight as he campaigns for a seat on the New York City Council representing the 2nd District.
The show is hosted by comedian and podcaster Adam Friedland and has gained a dedicated following for its unique format. Self-described as “the world’s greatest independently financed, left-of-center, Jewish, longform, late-night talk show on YouTube,” the show has over 256,000 subscribers and was recently profiled in GQ magazine.
Friedland rose to prominence with a previous podcast he cohosted with comedians Nick Mullen and Stavros Halkias, which aired from 2016 to 2022 and maintains a strong presence online through fan uploads. Since then, Friedland has leaned into an ironic, longform interview style, hosting a range of guests including academic Norman Finkelstein, filmmaker Paul Schrader, musician Julian Casablancas, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, and news anchor Chris Cuomo.
Weiner, once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, resigned from Congress in 2011 following a sexting scandal. His attempted political comeback in 2013, during a New York City mayoral campaign, was derailed by another sexting controversy involving a 22-year-old woman. Subsequent incidents in 2016 led to an FBI investigation after Weiner was found to have exchanged sexually explicit messages with a 15-year-old girl. That investigation indirectly impacted the 2016 presidential election through the discovery of emails linked to Hillary Clinton.
In 2017, Weiner pleaded guilty to transferring obscene material to a minor and was sentenced to 21 months in prison. He was released in early 2019 and is now registered as a sex offender. Since his release, Weiner has worked in consulting and hosted a radio show and podcast on WABC.
His appearance on “The Adam Friedland Show” coincides with his attempt to reenter politics through a local council seat, adding a new dimension to a career that has repeatedly veered between political ambition and public scandal.
The episode airs Thursday and is available for free on YouTube.
