Seville, Spain – Lamine Yamal confidently stated that Real Madrid “cannot handle” Barcelona this season after Hansi Flick’s team staged a thrilling comeback to win the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.
Barcelona’s Dramatic Comeback Victory
Barça clinched the trophy in dramatic fashion as defender Jules Koundé scored a decisive 116th-minute winner. Ferran Torres had earlier forced extra time with a late equalizer.
“If they score two goals? No problem. They can’t handle us this year — we’ve shown it,” said Yamal.
The 17-year-old played a crucial role in Barça’s first two goals. He assisted Pedri for the opener and later set up Torres to level the score. Real Madrid had earlier taken the lead through Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Koundé’s Heroic Moment
Koundé sealed the comeback by intercepting a pass from Luka Modric and firing home. It continued Barcelona’s trend of dramatic wins in 2025 after turnarounds against Benfica, Atlético Madrid, and Celta Vigo.
Flick Praises Team Spirit
Speaking after the match, coach Hansi Flick praised his team’s spirit.
“They are fighting for everything. It’s unbelievable. They never gave up. Everyone is proud of this team. They deserved it. It was a huge win tonight.”
Flick also praised Koundé’s performance:
“Jules saved two clear chances from Real and then scored the winner. It was perfect — the right moment, right position, and a fantastic finish. He’s crazy, but in the best way. Our whole defense did an incredible job tonight.”
Barça Eyes the Treble
Barcelona is now in contention for a treble this season. They lead LaLiga by four points ahead of their next Clásico clash on May 11. They are also preparing for the Champions League semifinal against Inter Milan.
Flick added:
“Today was amazing, the atmosphere around the city and the stadium was fantastic. This win means so much for the fans. We celebrate today, but there’s still a lot to fight for, including the Champions League.”
Three Wins Against Real Madrid This Season
Saturday’s triumph marked Barça’s third win over Madrid this season. They had earlier won 4-0 at the Bernabéu in October and secured a 5-2 victory in the Spanish Supercopa final in January.
Recalling a pre-match conversation, Yamal said:
“I told Ronald Araújo at the hotel: if they score one goal, no problem. We believe in ourselves and we showed that tonight.”
Barcelona’s momentum continues, with the season’s biggest prizes still within reach.
