San Jose Water has issued a boil water advisory for residents living near the Cupertino-Saratoga border following a sudden loss of water pressure. The advisory is effective immediately and will remain in place until Sunday, June 15, 2025.
The temporary advisory was prompted by a drop in water pressure linked to nearby construction activity. According to San Jose Water, the decrease in pressure may have compromised the safety of the water supply, potentially allowing contaminants to enter the system.
As a precaution, affected residents are advised to either use bottled water or boil tap water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, food preparation, or brushing their teeth.
San Jose Water emphasized the importance of boiling water to kill any harmful bacteria or organisms that could be present due to the pressure drop. Boiling is a proven method to ensure water is safe for consumption during such incidents.
Water pressure can drop due to a variety of causes, including pipe breaks, maintenance work, or electrical outages. These disruptions can allow pollutants from outside sources to seep into the distribution system, posing a potential health risk if consumed untreated.
The full list of impacted streets is available on the San Jose Water website. Residents are encouraged to check the list to determine if they are affected and to follow all guidelines until the advisory is lifted.
The utility provider is currently investigating the cause of the pressure loss and working to restore normal service. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Until the advisory is officially lifted, San Jose Water recommends all impacted customers remain cautious and continue boiling water or using bottled alternatives.
For more information or updates, customers should visit the official San Jose Water website or contact their customer service line.
