Brentford Make It Three Wins in a Row with Dramatic Victory
Kevin Schade scored twice as Brentford earned a thrilling 4-3 win over Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday. The Bees, now on a three-match Premier League winning streak, surged up to ninth place in the table, pushing for a potential European spot with just three games remaining.
Mount Opens Scoring, But Brentford Turn It Around
Manchester United took the lead against the run of play in the 14th minute. Alejandro Garnacho, breaking down the left flank, played a sharp one-two with Kobbie Mainoo before delivering a low cross into the box. Mason Mount timed his run perfectly and calmly slotted the ball past Mark Flekken for 1-0.
Brentford were quick to respond. Michael Kayode’s long throw caused chaos, and after the ball was partially cleared, Mikkel Damsgaard’s deflected volley ricocheted off Luke Shaw and flew into the top corner for the equaliser.
Just six minutes later, Brentford completed the turnaround. Christian Nørgaard’s precise cross from the right flank found Kevin Schade at the back post, who powered in a header to make it 2-1. The Bees’ intensity continued, with Schade, Lewis-Potter, and Kayode tormenting United’s makeshift backline.
Schade Scores Again, Wissa Adds Fourth
After the break, Brentford continued to dominate, and in the 70th minute, Schade struck again. A quick passing move on the right side saw Mikkel Damsgaard feed Bryan Mbeumo, who curled in a teasing cross. Schade rose above the defence and headed home his second goal of the match.
Only four minutes later, Brentford extended their lead to 4-1. Mathias Jensen unlocked United’s backline with a brilliant through ball to Kayode, who unselfishly squared it to Yoane Wissa for a simple finish—his 18th goal of the season.
United Fight Back Late But Fall Short
Trailing by three goals with less than 10 minutes remaining, United tried to salvage something from the match. Garnacho curled a spectacular shot into the top corner from 25 yards, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
In stoppage time, Amad Diallo added a third for United, weaving in from the right and squeezing a low shot past Flekken. But Brentford held on to complete a memorable win.
Bees Close in on Europe, United Set New Low
The victory takes Brentford up to ninth in the table with 52 points, putting them in contention for a spot in the UEFA Conference League. Meanwhile, United remain 15th, with just 39 points and a record-setting 16th Premier League defeat of the season—surpassing last season’s 14 losses.
It also marked United’s longest winless run since 2015, under Louis van Gaal. Their youthful lineup, named with an eye on the upcoming Europa League semifinal, featured the club’s youngest ever Premier League starting XI, including 17-year-old Chido Obi.
Despite the disappointing result, Brentford manager Thomas Frank remained focused on finishing strong:
“We’ve had a really good run of games. The next one is the most important. It’s already a good season—let’s see if it can be incredible.”
