A flash flood warning has been issued across several parts of the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region as heavy, rain-producing storms continue to sweep through the area.

The warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), is in effect until 12 a.m. and covers Washington, D.C., Prince George’s County, and Montgomery County. Additional warnings have been extended to areas in Northern Virginia, including Sterling, Arlington County, Falls Church, and parts of Fairfax County.

According to meteorologist Jen Delgado from FOX 5, radar data indicates that between one to three inches of rain have already fallen in some locations. Forecasters warn that an additional one to three inches could fall by midnight, significantly increasing the risk of flash flooding.

Officials emphasize that life-threatening flash flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas, roadways, and locations with poor drainage. Residents are urged to avoid travel if possible and never attempt to drive through flooded roads.

The NWS has also issued a Special Marine Warning for the Tidal Potomac River, specifically from Key Bridge to Indian Head, Maryland. This marine advisory is in effect until 9:15 p.m., cautioning boaters of hazardous weather conditions.

Residents in these areas should stay alert to changing weather conditions and follow instructions from local authorities. Emergency preparedness officials recommend having a go-bag ready, securing important documents, and keeping updated through trusted news sources.

The storms are expected to continue through the evening, and further alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
