Brothers to be extradited to UK following conclusion of Romanian proceedings, say prosecutors
A series of sex attacks were allegedly carried out over a decade in the UK, Moldova and Romania by two brothers who exploited hundreds of vulnerable young women they promised to marry.
UK prosecutors agreed they have authorised 21 charges against influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.
Andrew Tate, 38, has been charged with 10 offences including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain; all of which are related to three alleged victims.
Tristan Tate, 36, is charged with 11 offences, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking, which relate to one alleged victim.
The two British-Americans are being investigated in Romania and have been charged with several crimes, which they deny.
A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said:
“We have authorised charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate relating to a number of offences, including rape, human trafficking, controlling prostitution and actual bodily harm against three women.
“Such charging decisions came following the receipt of a file of evidence from Bedfordshire police.
“An arrest warrant for European arrest was issued in England in 2024 and eventually saw the Romanian courts order the return of Andrew and Tristan Tate to the UK.
“But the internal criminal problems in Romania need to be laid to rest first.
Criminal proceedings are active and the defendants have the right to a fair trial,” the Crown Prosecution Service says everyone should remember.
“It is critical that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
Bedfordshire police issued an international arrest warrant for the siblings over allegations from between 2012 and 2015, which they deny.
They are already being prosecuted in Romania for trafficking minors, sexual intercourse with a minor and money laundering.
A separate case in which they face charges of human trafficking, and creating a gang to sexually exploit women, has been referred back to state prosecutors.
The pair will be extradited to the UK once the case in Romania is complete.
Andrew Tate is also being sued by four other women after the Crown Prosecution Service chose not to bring charges in 2019. He has denied the accusations.
Matt Jury, a lawyer acting on behalf of a number of people who claim to have fallen victim to Andrew Tate, said:
“We welcome the clarity from the Crown Prosecution Service that they are now working with our authorities to ensure this and that the Tates must face justice here in the UK – the Tates cannot be allowed to evade extradition.
“Meantime we continue to call on CPS to acknowledge that it erred in not prosecuting Tate when he was in the UK and press charges against him at last in respect of the rape and assault on the other three women, our clients, who filed criminal complaints against him to the police as far back as 2014, but to whom justice has so far been denied. They deserve justice, too.”
The claims were investigated by Hertfordshire police, which closed its file on the case in 2019.
The Tates are the sons of an American chess master and former US air force sergeant and a British catering assistant. The brothers were brought up on a farm in Luton, Bedfordshire.
A professional former kickboxer, Andrew Tate boasts over 10 million followers on X, where he shares a lifestyle of supercars, flash watches and private jets.
He operates an online academy in which he claims to teach young men how to get rich and date.
