David O. Russell’s new film Shutout brings together Gen Z and Baby Boomer stars. Jenna Ortega and Robert De Niro take the lead roles. The film, from RK Films and Black Bear, tells the story of Jake Kejeune (De Niro), a seasoned pool hustler. He teams up with young prodigy Mia (Ortega) to navigate the high-stakes world of professional pool.
In Shutout, Jake, a former master of the pool table, meets Mia. Her raw talent rekindles his competitive spirit. Together, they enter the cutthroat world of high-stakes pool. Each game could mean the difference between fortune and ruin. As Mia’s star rises, Jake faces a tough choice. He must decide if he can guide her to greatness or if her ambition will overshadow his teachings.
The film is based on a screenplay by Alejandro Adams. It is produced by David O. Russell, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Mark Bomback. Black Bear will present Shutout to international buyers at the Cannes Film Market. CAA Media Finance will handle the U.S. rights.
