Jessica Simpson is embracing change with a bold new look—debuting freshly dyed dirty blonde hair with a sun-kissed glow and a confident edge.
The 43-year-old singer, actress, and fashion designer showed off her updated hairstyle during a special appearance on the season 23 finale of American Idol on Sunday, May 18. The transformation, created by Simpson’s longtime friend and celebrity colorist Rita Hazan, brings a youthful energy and “slight attitude” to reflect where Simpson is in her life right now.
Hazan described the shade as “desert sunset blonde”, a more natural look with a vibe like “a kid on the beach.” The transformation took about two hours to complete and was enhanced with Glaze’s Supergloss in Vanilla Lights to eliminate brassiness and add shine. 
“She was so happy to get a new look and switch it up,” Hazan shared. “She always had a super buttery blonde — this time we wanted something new and youthful.”
The timing of this makeover feels significant for Simpson, who is adjusting to a new chapter following her recent split from husband Eric Johnson. The former couple shares three children: Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, Birdie Mae, and Ace Knute.
“It’s a fresh and young vibe, but with confidence and a slight attitude to represent her mood,” Hazan said. “There’s a personal and professional trust we’ve built over the years.”
Simpson and Hazan typically meet up every six weeks for what Hazan calls a “hair party” in Jessica’s bathroom, complete with friends, laughter, and storytelling. “It’s actually hysterical,” Hazan added. “I don’t think there was one time I went there and didn’t laugh hysterically.”
A Style Evolution in Full Swing
Jessica Simpson has been turning heads with her fashion choices lately. In March, she stunned fans in a TikTok video from Austin, Texas, wearing a $2,350 Maison Common faux shearling coat, a leopard-print jumpsuit, and tall latex boots. She accessorized with oversized aviator sunglasses and a large cross necklace.
That same month, she made a surprise appearance at Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion festival in a leopard-print dress, layered turquoise jewelry, and a dramatic silver belt, cementing her place as both a music and style icon.
Simpson recently released her EP Nashville Canyon, a reflection of her evolving identity and creative voice. Her single “Use My Heart Against Me” has been well-received, marking her first original music release in years.
“It was a sexy song to write,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s kind of craving someone that you want again… even if it’s just for one night.”
