Michael Pitt, the actor known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Murder by Numbers, is facing serious criminal charges in Brooklyn, New York. Prosecutors allege that Pitt, 44, sexually assaulted and violently attacked his former girlfriend during multiple incidents that took place between April 2020 and August 2021 at his residence in Bushwick.
According to court documents, Pitt has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse, criminal sex acts, assault, attempted assault, and strangulation. The allegations include forcibly fondling the victim, sexually assaulting her, and attacking her with a wooden plank and a cinderblock. On August 7, 2021, he allegedly strangled the woman during another violent encounter.
Brooklyn prosecutors detailed four separate incidents, including a particularly brutal episode in June 2021 when Pitt is accused of striking the victim with a cement block. The indictment outlines a pattern of escalating violence over more than a year. 
Pitt, who was previously arrested in 2022 for assault and petty larceny after hitting a man and stealing his phone, was also hospitalized later that year after reportedly throwing objects from a rooftop and being declared emotionally disturbed.
In his latest court appearance, Pitt pleaded not guilty to all charges before Judge Joanne Quinones, who set bail at $100,000. He was released after posting bail and is scheduled to return to court on June 17.
Pitt’s attorney, Cary London, maintains his client’s innocence, stating, “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual. We look forward to proving his innocence through the evidence and not through the media.”
