Thousands of demonstrators are expected to participate in “No Kings” protests across Seattle and other parts of Washington state on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The protests are part of a national movement with around 1,800 rallies planned throughout the U.S., challenging former President Donald Trump’s leadership style and recent immigration crackdowns.
In Seattle, major gatherings will occur at Cal Anderson Park at noon and the University of Washington’s Red Square at 11 a.m., the latter timed to coincide with the university’s commencement ceremony. Another protest will occur on the 10:25 a.m. Bainbridge-Seattle ferry, which state transportation officials say is permitted.
The protests aim to symbolically “dethrone” Trump, whom organizers accuse of acting more like a monarch than a democratically elected leader. The largest Seattle demonstration will march from Capitol Hill to Seattle Center, led by Seattle Indivisible and other local activist organizations. 
Tyna Ek, a key organizer, emphasized the protest’s peaceful intentions, noting that safety and de-escalation are a priority. “We’ve been watching what’s going on and are prepared,” Ek said. Organizers have trained volunteer safety and first aid teams ready to support attendees and respond to any conflicts.
King County Metro announced it will temporarily reroute about two dozen bus routes, including the RapidRide C and E lines, around midday to accommodate the protests.
This week, Seattle police arrested at least 10 individuals during related demonstrations. While mostly peaceful, some incidents involved protesters lighting a dumpster on fire and throwing fireworks. Officers responded with chemical irritants, though the department has not commented on its approach for this weekend.
Meanwhile, in Southern California, federal forces were deployed to suppress immigration-related protests. Trump has activated over 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines, despite opposition from California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell’s office stated that the Seattle Police Department is preparing for the demonstrations, though specifics remain unclear.
“The fear tactics will not silence us,” Ek stated. “We want to bring attention back to the people and away from authoritarian power grabs.”
Organizers hope that the protests will send a powerful message about defending democracy and protecting immigrant communities.
