Universal Pictures has dropped the official trailer for “Nobody 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk. Reprising his role as Hutch Mansell, Odenkirk returns as the seemingly average suburban father with a deadly past, now diving even deeper into his assassin roots.

The trailer teases high-octane action sequences where Hutch uses unconventional weapons—including a Whack-A-Mole mallet and a boat anchor—to take down waves of enemies. The franchise continues its gritty, choreographed action style reminiscent of John Wick, which shares creative DNA through screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who wrote both franchises.

Cast and Crew Updates

Returning alongside Odenkirk is Connie Nielsen as Hutch’s wife, Becca Mansell. The sequel also stars:

  • Colin Hanks

Timo Tjahjanto, the Indonesian director known for The Night Comes for Us and May the Devil Take You, helms the film. The screenplay was co-written by Kolstad, Odenkirk himself, Aaron Rabin, and Umair Aleem. Odenkirk also returns as a producer, alongside Marc Provissiero, Braden Aftergood, Kelly McCormick, and David Leitch, under the 87North and Universal partnership.

Background and Legacy

The original Nobody, directed by Ilya Naishuller, became a cult hit upon its March 2021 release, grossing $57 million worldwide. It won praise for blending visceral action with dark humor and a relatable protagonist in the vein of John Wick.

In a previous interview with Variety, Odenkirk revealed that his personal experience with home break-ins partially inspired the film. “It really was cathartic,” he said. “I recommend to any father who has suffered through a home break-in and felt like they could have done more to make an action film.”

Film critic Owen Gleiberman described the original movie as “a cardboard fable” that nevertheless “pops” when the violence erupts, capturing a sense of repressed rage and suburban monotony turned upside down.

Release Date

“Nobody 2” is scheduled to hit theaters on August 15. With the new trailer already generating buzz, fans of action thrillers have reason to mark their calendars.
