Goalkeeper & Defence
Inaki Pena (6/10):
Bilbao’s shooting was wayward, hardly testing the goalkeeper. Bailed out by the crossbar in the second half but commanded his area well.
Eric Garcia (7/10):
Busy down his flank but made some very strong challenges up against Nico Williams, who always wanted to run at him.
Ronald Araujo (6/10):
Made more clearances than any Barca player as Athletic Club ratcheted up the pressure throughout the first half. Subbed for Christensen on the hour.
Pau Cubarsi (7/10):
Passed the ball so well and was so rarely beaten on the ground. He’s exceptionally good.
Alejandro Balde (6/10):
Got forward whenever he could, as always, although he wasn’t quite as effective as usual in the final third.
Midfield
Gavi (8/10):
Strong in midfield, making tackles, and taking immense care of the ball. Barcelona’s best midfielder on the night.
Pedri (6/10):
Athletic pressed him well and forced a couple of wayward passes. It’s notable only because of how brilliant he usually is at keeping the ball.
Fermin Lopez (7/10):
Fantastic assist for Lewandowski’s opener. More than one key pass in a superbly creative performance.
Attack
Lamine Yamal (7/10):
Always a threat. A couple of efforts, one of which trickled wide after some excellent high pressing.
Robert Lewandowski (8/10):
Scored two superb goals, the first a brilliant chip and the second a fine header after a clever run. Uncharacteristically poor finishing stopped him from scoring four.
Raphinha (9/10):
Brilliant delivery for Lewandowski’s header and was denied another world-class assist by a surprisingly poor finish from the Poland international. A superb display and one that strengthens his Ballon d’Or case. Subbed for Olmo.
