Shah Rukh Khan Makes Elegant Met Gala Debut in Custom Sabyasachi Look

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan made a striking debut at the 2025 Met Gala, wearing a custom creation by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Known globally as SRK, Khan stepped onto fashion’s biggest red carpet in a floor-length black wool coat, staying true to his signature black-and-white aesthetic.

To complete the look, he carried a gem-encrusted tiger head cane and wore a sparkling chain featuring a large letter “K.” The understated yet bold ensemble aligned perfectly with Khan’s personal style — something he admitted helped ease his red carpet jitters.

“I told Sabya I only wear black and white, but what we designed for me is what I’m most comfortable in,” Khan said during the Vogue livestream, adding that he’s “very shy” and often skips red carpets altogether.

A Long-Awaited Met Gala Moment

Despite having starred in over 100 films and being one of the most recognized actors in the world, this marks Khan’s first-ever Met Gala appearance — a debut made even more meaningful by this year’s exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Sabyasachi highlighted the importance of this moment, stating:

“When you get a man like this on the red carpet, especially when it’s ‘Black dandy,’ representation is the most important thing. We wanted to represent Shah Rukh Khan as Shah Rukh Khan, and nobody else.”

Sabyasachi’s Global Vision

Kolkata-based designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, celebrating 25 years of his label, continues to champion Indian luxury fashion on the global stage. His work has been worn by Bollywood royalty and international stars alike, and he’s been vocal about his goal of making Sabyasachi “India’s first global luxury brand.”

Rising South Asian Representation at the Met

Joining SRK on the Met carpet was Diljit Dosanjh, another first-time attendee and a beloved name in Punjabi cinema and music. Dosanjh wore a cape embroidered with a map of Punjab, styled with a regal, maharaja-inspired outfit by Prabal Gurung.

Both stars’ appearances highlight a growing wave of South Asian representation in global fashion and mark a powerful moment of cultural pride on one of fashion’s most prestigious nights.
