Squid Game is officially returning for its third and final season, and the first sneak peek promises a high-stakes, emotional conclusion to the global phenomenon.
On May 5, Netflix dropped a teaser trailer for Season 3, along with the official logline revealing that the story picks up immediately after Season 2’s cliffhanger ending. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), still mourning the loss of his friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) and betrayed by the Front Man, is thrust back into the games — this time with a mission to dismantle the system from within.
“Still haunted by betrayal and loss,” Netflix’s description reads, “Gi-hun faces new perils — including the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who shockingly infiltrated their rebellion disguised as Player 001.”
The teaser opens with the ominous image of pink-suited guards carrying a coffin-like black box into their quarters. Inside lies Gi-hun, unconscious. Once he awakens, the remaining players are faced with a final, mysterious challenge that begins with a massive gumball machine dispensing red and blue balls — colors that determine their next fate.
The new game divides allies and families into red and blue factions, as violence and tension escalate. Several returning characters make appearances, including The Front Man, detective Hwang Jun-ho, and players like Myung-gi (Player 333), Geum-ja (Player 149), and the pink guard No-eul.
The trailer ends with a chilling moment: the cry of a newborn baby, teasing deeper emotional stakes and perhaps a final twist.
Season 2 ended on a brutal note, with Gi-hun’s rebellion falling apart and his best friend murdered by the Front Man — later revealed to be In-ho, a former winner now running the game under the alias Player 001.
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that the third season will explore how Gi-hun, burdened by guilt and failure, will move forward. “How is Gi-hun going to carry on his mission? That’s the story that’ll further unfold,” he told Variety.
Ready to face the final round? Season 3 of Squid Game is coming soon to Netflix.
