World number two Iga Swiatek continued her strong run at the Madrid Open, earning her eighth straight win at the tournament. She defeated Czech player Linda Noskova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to book a place in the last 16.
Swiatek, who was last year’s finalist and is the defending champion, is still searching for her first title of the season. This win was particularly sweet, as Noskova had beaten her earlier this year at the 2024 Australian Open.
In the previous round, Swiatek had to fight hard to beat teenage player Alexandra Eala from the Philippines. However, in this match, she looked more confident and finished the job in just 1 hour and 17 minutes.
Up next, Swiatek will face Russia’s Diana Shnaider, the 13th seed. It will be their first-ever meeting. Shnaider advanced to the next round with a dominant performance, winning every game against Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.
Meanwhile, American stars Coco Gauff and Madison Keys also reached the last 16. Gauff, the fourth seed, won 6-2, 6-3 against fellow American Ann Li. Keys, who won the 2024 Australian Open and is seeded fifth, beat Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
